Would you believe that there are 52,000 trees lost every day in the Philippines? It is very alarming but instead of just watching it happen every day, why not make a move and be a GCash Green Hero.
How can we help?
Take part in restoring our forests. Be a part of the solution by reducing your carbon footprint. GCash Forest is a new feature that gives you the power to plant and grow real trees — all through the GCash App.
How does it work?
Time to go green.
Switch to green activities to reduce waste and carbon consumption that harm the environment.
Collect green energy.
Earn energy points from green activities and cashless actions! Drop by a day after your transaction to collect them.
Pick your tree.
Once you’ve earned enough energy points, you can choose a native tree to adopt on your own, or with other GForest users.
Be a Green Hero.
Congratulations! We are one step closer to rebuilding our forests, thanks to you.
Plant trees in Ipo Watershed.
Ipo Watershed is located within the Angat Watershed Forest Reserve in Norzagaray, Bulacan. Its forest cover has dramatically halved in recent years, threatening the wildlife, biodiversity, and communities residing in the area.
What is a watershed?
A watershed is an area of land where rainfall converges into a body of water. It is normally used as a potable water source, but the quality of water is also crucial for preserving the wildlife and forest cover in the watershed. In turn, the forest cover plays a major role in filtering, storing, and supplying fresh water to cities.
What causes forest degradation?
Around 47,000 hectares of forest cover are lost every year. In Ipo Watershed alone, forest cover has dramatically dropped from 85% to just 40% — an alarming rate, considering forests are our first line of defense against natural calamities like landslides and flash floods. Widespread and uncontrolled logging has been responsible for much of the deforestation.
